The Decision!

Yesterday’s blog was a big deal for me. I’ve committed myself to going forward with a new project. Will it succeed and fill a void? I certainly hope so.
A few people are excited and so it’s good to have a little momentum to back me. It’s not going to be an easy road to travel, but easy isn’t how anything truly meaningful begins. Perseverance and the ability to use modern technology with some great people and friends is all that is necessary to start.
What really matters is getting started. Everything else is trivial. Too often, we procrastinate and dream big dreams only to fail to initiate the process. Fear keeps us from our best work. It’s far easier to reason we don’t have the time, skills or background to take the giant leap.
With today’s technological information we have no excuse.
Between online videos, forums, blog articles and connecting with people from the internet, virtually any business can be started. We have the freedom and ability to do what was impossible without money, persuasion and experience; thirty years ago. The rules have changed.
Isn’t it time we get in the game?
Years ago, I worked in the factories and watched the auto industry production slow. It affected my wages by constantly being laid off and called back to work until the factory relocated. I spent 31 years in healthcare and witnessed the impending changes that kicked my wife and I to the curb. Why not do something where I call the shots for once?
You should too!
Relying on someone else to “keep us on the island” is a waste of precious time. Living a life of mediocrity usually implies living pay check to pay check. We bought into the American Dream years ago, so we could purchase stuff we don’t need or afford, due to the marketing displayed primarily on television.
You know the routine, work your shift, come home, eat a meal and turn on the television; while tuning out everything else. Pretending tomorrow will be better, only to play as the world turns, day after day. Television was the only media source to escape with at the time. Media sources have expanded and given us a vast wealth of ways to spend our time.
We can play online games or use the Internet to our advantage. We can do what we did yesterday or create our own plan. We can hang out on the island until our time is up or set sail to a new home.
Your choice!

The American Spirit!

Photo courtesy of: The U.S. Army.

“Those who will not govern themselves are condemned to find masters to govern over them”
    - Steven Pressfield

We have two main political parties in the USA.
One group believes the government should take care of the poor and provide prosperity. The other group of people wants less government involvement for assistance to run their lives and businesses.

Both groups are making the same mistake by believing someone else (the government) makes or breaks our existence.
There is a third choice.

The truth is- we as individuals do have power.
When you wait for a political choice to “fix” any situation you’re wasting valuable time.

Many Americans have innovated our history, entire industries and sports  without waiting or relying on approval, new law's or a tax break.
Samuel Colt changed how the West was won with one simple patent. Paul Brown successfully improved player’s equipment and changed the way football was played by creating his own coaching methods. Roger Penske worked outside the rules to win races and incorporate new automobile innovations. Bethany Hamilton didn’t rely on government healthcare for assistance.
Better to forge ahead, make progress and find a way.

When given no other option- the American Spirit sets the new standard!

Today, You have a Choice!

Photo used courtesy of: "CAVE CANEM".

The only choice worse than making the wrong choice is to do nothing.

The crowd that could make a difference is the mass of people who fail to show.

The 80/20 rule applies to most everything including voting.

Today, we have the opportunity to let our voices be heard.

Don’t waste one of our most precious freedoms.

It’s your opportunity, privilege and duty to vote today.

We’re waiting to hear from you!

The Door is Open!

Many of the things we could achieve in our lives are within our grasp today.
We no longer need permission from a higher authority to begin.
Recognition by the fraternity, a degree or license isn’t necessary.
The door is open!
Find your passion, spread the idea and build your tribe.
Do what you’ve always dreamed or talked about.
Give it your best shot.
Just do it!
Until We Meet Again,

Gate A is Now Open- Proceed with Choices!

In 1975, I graduated from high school.

Back in those days the options available upon graduation were:

·  Attend College
·  Join the Military
·  Get a job (most likely in a factory)

Gatekeepers controlled information and access to everything.

Our choices and lives were limited and predictable.

The Internet is changing us to a non-permission based society. It has created opportunities and challenges to be discovered in the form of new careers, freedom and stewardship. Every day we have access to data never available to previous generations during their entire lifetime!

We are no longer isolated from the world and each other.

The gates are now open.

Proceed with care.

Follow your passion and live your dreams.

Until We Meet Again,
Jim Carver

Why? The question we should always ask.

Photo used courtesy of: Good Eye Might.
I was always the kid who went where he was told not to go. The curiosity of “why was all I needed. As you can imagine my experiences have multiplied throughout my life. I’ve been a bit daring, risky and walked to the edge.

The quest to understand behaviors and thinking processes have consumed my thoughts over my years of existence. Sometimes I’ve been burned, hurt or rewarded for my desire to understand people, places and things. I’ve fallen over the edge many times and somehow bounced back. Some folks never do.

But there isn’t much I wouldn’t change or do differently.

My journey has given me the ability to understand both sides of many issues. It has allowed me to look fear in the eyes and forge ahead. It has given me the ability to see and feel people’s closed minded thoughts, emotions and fears.

I understand why the masses just follow the rules and others choose to become a linchpin. It has given me the ability to engage people from a different perspective.

Most of all, curiosity increased my ability to follow a different drummer.

It’s a walk on the side of no turning back and taking chances.

I can look outside the box and embrace the moment.

Because, the only thing that really matters is: “Why.”

When to Quit?

It’s tough when you cannot be creative. Feeling like a dog at the end of its leash; waiting for the owner to pull you back into your limited territory. After a short while you begin to wonder what the point is. Why bother?

The ride along the scenic route isn’t enjoyable if you must wear binders. Criticism is hard to swallow if you are unable to taste success. You reach a point where you feel the hammer before the hit. Years of allowing people to exert their power on you takes its toll emotionally and physically.

Those repetitive scenarios eventually remove self esteem, like a lamb to the slaughter. Technically the process becomes mechanically void of any human emotional reward.

Allowing oneself to be manipulated, controlled,  and bullied is a complete waste of precious time. Guaranteed misery is the only path if you choose to repeat the same steps. A transitional movement is the logical step towards moving to a safer environment. That process requires time and sometimes time isn’t our friend.

Sometimes, quitting what you are doing is the only sensible option.

Quitting is not comfortable, easy, or popular.

We were taught winners never quit.

The truth is- winners know when to quit.

The “wisdom to know the difference” is all that is necessary.

It is only then- you will be able to achieve something that really matters!

I highly recommend- Quitter: Closing The Gap Between Your Day Job & Dream Job written by best-selling author Jon Acuff. Jon was a serial quitter shuffling through eight jobs in eight years. At one point, Jon held a full-time job and travelled the country speaking, often changing clothes in the airport on the way back to his “other” job. Jon obtained his “dream job” when he was hired as a member of the Dave Ramsey team.

If you’re leading two lives between working two jobs or want to find out how to transition to your dream job, order a copy of this book. Jon has solid advice on how to achieve your goal and do what you love to do.  It may be the difference between stress and success!
PS. Don’t miss out on the Quitter Conference  with Jon Acuff - September 20th and 21st at The Financial Peace Conference Center in Brentwood, TN.

Something Meaningful, that Matters!

Something that I’ve found strange since I became an author, blogger and writer has bothered me for awhile.

I’ve noticed when the momentum of doing one action causes other reactions. Sometimes those “reactions” are choices. The publicity of doing one thing signifies public awareness and all of a sudden different offers seemingly cross your path. Those options are a result of the Law of Attraction.

The problem arises when opportunities do not align with your steps to success or your business plan. Those events can lead to what I term: “The Law of Detraction.”

In the last couple of years, I took on several added responsibilities that didn’t align with my plans. I chalked it up to gaining experience. Then you realize everyone isn’t on the same trail. The result is a pending train wreck.

By accepting those kinds of proposals you are allowing others and yourself to interfere and derail your original focus. Once you direct all your energy towards the new goal, the main reason for your success stops.

A majority of people fielding offers don’t necessarily do so, to hurt you. But, some of them do so in an attempt to inadvertently control your output, feed their own ego or ride your coat tail.

Once the dust clears you realized you have lost all of your previous momentum, some time ago. Relationships are ruined and the path you once walked easily is cluttered with uncertainty.

We are only human and can only accomplish so much at one given time. We don’t posses magical powers or have the ability to turn something into success by merely being involved, signing on, or showing up.

My lizard brain (survival mode) has been in control. The resistance (FEAR) to do my best work has gotten in the way, far too long. This is how we sabotage ourselves.

My work during the day is performed best in solitude. At night, I write alone until the wee hours of the morning. The challenge is between me and my inner self. I like to have the option to control the outcome without interruption or noise. If I fail, I only have myself to blame. If I succeed, I have an audience to thank!

Never take your mind off your goal. Never let anyone deter your plan or stop you.

When you are doing something you love, don’t abandon it. Press on.

Persistence must be your strongest asset.

It's only then you will realize- you are doing- something meaningful that matters!
